Brij
Raj Bhawan Palace, which is about 183 years old, is located on the
right banks of river Chambal, near the city of Kota in Rajasthan,
India. The palace was built in 1830 A.D. as a British Residency,
which in 1900 A.D., later became the State guesthouse of Kota. Many
VVIP's including Viceroys, Kings and Queens and Prime Ministers have
resided here. In 1903, Lord Curzon visited the palace, and in 1911,
Queen Mary of England stayed here on her visit. In 1971, the palace
was visited by Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi.
The
palace was converted into a Heritage Hotel in 1980 and is also the
residence of Maharao Brijraj Singh of Kota and his family. The palace
in its colonial style gets a magnificent view from the Chambal River.
The spacious rooms are decorated with graceful furniture. The drawing
room and dining room looks stunning and reflects the influence of the
royal family. The air-conditioned bedrooms with attached bathrooms
are equipped with color TV and telephone with national and
international access.
Well
maintained lawns, terrace gardens, abundance of trees and greenery,
and a wide variety of birds increases magnificence of the palace.
Brij Raj Bhawan Palace serves Continental, Chinese, and Indian
Cuisine including many specialties of the Hadaoti region. The food
is made under the personal supervision of the royal family.
The
Brij Raj Bhawan Palace in Kota, Rajasthan is considered haunted and
is placed at 2nd position in the list of ten most haunted places in
India.
